Ep074: The House that Built Me

The family home… does that evoke a sense of love, warmth, and security? Or does it make you feel sad, dark, or lonely?

Several months ago, my sister told me she and her husband were going to sell what had been the family home. When our mother became sick about eight years ago, my sister and brother-in-law moved in to provide care for her. Six years ago our mother died. Now it was time to let go of a house that was too big, with a yard that was too time-consuming to maintain.

I didn’t experience much of an emotional reaction. In today’s episode I reflect on why that is and whether it matters.
