Last week, I asked if your SMART goals were DUMB. This week, I continue talking about SMART goals, and put a feminine spin on them. Using a recent goal in my life, I compare how the masculine and feminine energies apply to achieving goals.

Ep122: Are You Making Walking Too Complicated?

By Donna Doyon | Gratifying Goals , Healthier Habits , Maximizing Mindset , Podcast

Walking is a simple, magical way to improve your overall wellness, but too often people over think the activity and make it waaaayyy too complicated.

Of course, making it complicated provides the excuse to NOT get off the couch and out the door. 🙂

Yes, I understand that’s part of it, too.

But when you make an activity as simple as walking complicated, it makes me wonder what else you are making complicated.

It’s easy to do. We get bogged down in the details. We worry about doing it right. We don’t know HOW to do it right, so we go into Google search mode. And then we are forever trapped in the muddy waters of too much information, conflicting information, and weird information.

This week I talk about how simple a walking program is.

Yes, you can add bits and pieces to it to make it more effective, to collect data to show your progress, and more, but the simple truth is…

Walking is one of the simplest activities you can do.

You’ve been walking for decades.

You were walking before you could speak.

You were walking before you could control the basic bodily functions of peeing and pooping.

You were walking before you learned how to tie your shoes!

Today, and everyday, I encourage you to take a walk.

Don’t make it a big deal. Don’t over think it. Just pretend you are that toddler who was so excited and fast to move on your feet!

Ep121: Questioning My Doubts

By Donna Doyon | Gratifying Goals , Learn with Me , Maximizing Mindset , Podcast

When things start to go your way, do you freak out a bit? Do you wonder if it’s just a fluke? Do you worry that you can’t handle the outcome? Do you think you should quit while you are ahead?

I know the feeling. Today I share how I started questioning my doubts and the greater insight I got into myself.

Ep119: An Interview with Myself

By Donna Doyon | Blog , Gratifying Goals , Learn with Me , Maximizing Mindset , Podcast

Confession…

This is the first podcast episode I have ever recorded and considered not publishing.

Why?

Because although the premise of this episode is simple…

To practice putting myself “out there” with my message of walking for wellness, by being a guest on other podcasts.

The thought of live interviews terrifies me.

My inner voice keeps asking, “What if you don’t know the answer?”

“What if your mind goes blank and you can’t think of an answer?”

“What if you sound like an idiot?”

“What if…”

“What if…”

Here’s the sad truth…

“What ifs” can be the killer of dreams!

So…

This week I took a big scary leap and decided to play with the role of interviewee.

I created my own interview questions and shared my answers in this week’s episode.

To be honest, I was not impressed with the result.

In too many places it sounds like I am talking AT you, and not TO you.

The segues between questions were awkward without the natural banter/transition that typically would occur between interviewer and interviewee.

I totally blanked in a couple of places. 🙁

I forgot to say anything about this podcast. 🙁

So, I seriously considered tucking this audio recording into a file folder buried so deeply on my hard drive that no one would ever find it.

And then it dawned on me…

These feelings of uncertainty… These doubts about my ability… The worry that you’d think less of me…

Ahhh… sounds like a fixed mindset!

A fixed mindset means seeing limits where they don’t exist; thinking that what I was currently able to do was the MOST that I would be able to do; and thinking that my identity was fixed to my current talents and skills.

So I switched mental gears.

The content of this week’s episode has not changed.

But my thoughts about it have.

Now I can see it as a benchmark for my future development.

Now I can see that it was a great practice run for what to do or not do.

I’m still uncomfortable sharing this. It’s both raw and scripted in nature. It’s an awkward episode.

But…

In order to honor and be an example of a growth mindset, I must take a stand against my feelings of discomfort and doubt.

The only way for me to gain experience, is to practice.

So I will not let this practice episode hold me back. I will learn from it and move forward.

Selena Soo, a publicity and marketing strategist said, “You don’t need more experience, you need more courage.”

So this week’s episode is a tribute to my courage! 🙂

And I hope that my courage and this week’s message, inspire you to start getting your own message out into the world. Share your dream and your scary “what ifs” in the comments.

Here is a timeline of the questions I asked myself:

9:43 – Q. Independent Podcast producer and habit strategist. They seem like two totally different things. How do they fit together?
11:42 – Q. So what exactly are you trying to achieve?

14:24 – Q. And how are you doing that?

19:04 – Q. You’ve said that most people are going about these types of lifestyle changes the wrong way. Can you tell me more about that?

23:07 – Q. So tell us about the programs you offer:

26:08 – Q. And how can people connect with you:

26:42 – Q. Thank you so much for spending time with me today. Is there anything else you’d like to share with the audience?

Ep118: You Can’t Win the Prize if You Don’t Enter the Contest

By Donna Doyon | Blog , Gratifying Goals , Maximizing Mindset , Podcast

I rarely enter contests. I’ve always thought they were a waste of time and energy. Statistically, the chance of winning is so low, I never saw the point.

I’m not a huge fan of games either. I don’t like feeling like a loser when I lose, and I don’t like the feeling of winning when it means someone else has to lose.

I also experience #FOLLAJA.

Yes, I created a hashtag (which also puts me at risk of FOLLAJA).

FOLLAJA – Fear Of Looking Like A Jack Ass.

So for most of my life, I’ve only played when I couldn’t find a way out of playing.

Recently, though, I realized there are too many games in life I’ve only experienced from the bleachers.

It’s time to change that.

Time to lace up my shoes and step onto the playing field and see what happens.

Are you participating in your “game of life” or are you watching from the sidelines, focused on what everyone else is doing or how they are playing their game?

This week I entered a contest. I put time and energy into it. I gave it the best shot that I could. And if I score a win, that would be AWESOME!

But I can honestly say that just getting in the game, has been AMAZING!

I would love to know what your “game” is and whether you’ve been playing “all-in” or if you’ve been watching from the safety of the sidelines? Share it in the comments or in the Start Today and Continue Tomorrow Facebook group.

Ep117: Stop Stalling and Make a Decision

By Donna Doyon | Blog , Gratifying Goals , Maximizing Mindset , Podcast

Sitting on the fence, hemming and hawing about a decision just keeps you stalled.

In this week’s episode, I cover:

  • 3 ways to make a decision
  • 3 steps to make a decision
  • 3 dangers of thinking “It’s good enough for now”

If you are stuck because you can’t decide which path to choose, just pick one, so you can start moving again.

You can always retrace your steps if you discover that path is not the best one for you.

One thing I’ve learned is that sometimes I don’t know what works or doesn’t work for me, until I give it a try.

And oftentimes, what I thought I wanted, isn’t what I wanted after all. But I couldn’t learn that without making a decision and giving that “something” a try.

Ep116: Becoming the Hero on Your Journey

By Donna Doyon | Blog , Gratifying Goals , Maximizing Mindset , Podcast

An unintentional continuation of last week’s episode on Surrendering to Your Journey, this week I share the typical stages every hero goes thru on her quest for personal fulfillment.

The important thing to remember is that no one starts their hero’s journey as a hero. They all start as an ordinary human being with jobs and household chores, until their heart calls them into action.

Ep114: What’s the Focus of Your Daily Affirmations?

By Donna Doyon | Blog , Gratifying Goals , Healthier Habits , Maximizing Mindset , Podcast , Surpassing Self

Every day, throughout the day, you make statements to and about yourself.

Are these statements serving your growth and well being or are they keeping you in a state of negative reality?

Learn how changing your words, can change your outcome.

Now if your first thought is, “Daily affirmations are stupid. I don’t believe they can change anything about my life.”

I invite you to consider “what if…”

Remember the mindset work we’ve been doing?

A fixed mindset says “Nothing can or will change.” And if you are satisfied with your life as it is, you’re right, you don’t need to change anything.

But…

If you are not satisfied… a growth mindset invites you to become curious. To play. To experiment.

So ask yourself, “What if writing out positive daily affirmations actually works? What if by changing what I am thinking, I can change how I am feeling? What if by changing how I am feeling, I can change what I am doing? What if by changing what I am doing, I can change the direction of my life?”

That WHAT IF question is powerful!

Are you willing to give it a try? Even if you feel silly, out of your element, or even stupid for doing it?

A growth mindset says, “Sure. I’ll give it a try. You can’t win the lottery if you never buy a ticket.”

Join me in my FREE Facebook group Start Today and Continue Tomorrow and share your experience with positive daily affirmations.
