When my boys were young and wanted something, I always made them ask for it.
Politely, of course. 🙂
Heck, even after they were grown, I still made them ask–sometimes, they weren’t quite as polite. 🙂
It wasn’t that I didn’t know what they wanted, I wanted them to learn how to ASK for what they wanted. I believed it was an important life skill–articulating your wants, your needs. I still believe it’s an important life skill.
Admittedly, it can be difficult to learn AND uncomfortable to apply.
But many times not asking leads to conflicts in relationships. We expect the other person to read our minds (or our hearts), but we never claim the ability to do this for them.
Many times not asking leads to making poor choices because we anticipate the answer will be no. Rather than giving someone the chance to say no, we break ties, we make mistakes.
In today’s episode, I share my story of “making the ask.”
I assure you… it was not easy. But I pulled up my big-girl-panties and did it anyway. Listen to my story…
What do you want in your life? Are you willing to ask for it?
I hope you are. I hope you do.
Just remember… ask nicely. 🙂
Each week I share another (hopefully) inspirational message to encourage and support you. If you’d like me to e-mail you a reminder when a new episode is published (every Tuesday morning), just fill in your name and e-mail below. I’ll take care of the rest. 🙂
